Close enough, unfortunately this forum is not in space (yet).
BTW, this game also have you stranded on an unknown planet and a lizard steals an item from you.

Well, the story in this particular game is set in the universe described in the book that won a couple of Hugo Awards.

It's Frederik Pohl's Gateway 2: Homeworld. Those staring faces were haunting me, but as soon as you mentioned the Hugos, I knew it was one of the two games in the series.

The Eyes of Ara is correct, Bob. Aside from the not-base-ten puzzles, I really enjoyed the game.
