Is it The Demon's Forge?

RE: Adventure game scene game (continued) - Beau - 08-26-2026

Demon's Forge, yes. The game that made me feel like I was bad at games in 1986

I read all about your adventures over here!

Here's one from the pits of my early adventure game experience:

Beyond the horizon ALPHA?

RE: Adventure game scene game (continued) - BobVP - 08-27-2026

At first I thought this was a joke - it sounded like a PS5 shooter or something. But I looked it up and that's a deep cut.

This game is older and was actually a commercial release. No development tools, no egine: just Visual Basic and what I imagine to be Micosoft Paint. The music comes out as stilted and awkard as the player controls.

There was a time I'd play anything shaped like an adventure game - and this game certainly fits that bill.

Yeah "beyond the horizon" was (is) a a crudely designed game, the creator couldn't find an artist to help with the graphics in the AGS forums and so he decided to just make it himself with his limited skills and knowledge at the time. That's what the alpha in the name implies I think (alpha version). I haven't played it for years but I remember that it was really good and entertaining in contrast to its looks. Your photo reminded me of the crude graphics of that game
