This is a free fan adventure, a successful sequel to Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders by LucasFilm Games from 1988. More information can be found in the accompanying manual.
This fan game was originally developed by the Artificial Hair Brothers and released in German in 2008.
The announced English version followed in 2015 with the release of the Director's Cut. The game was expanded with new cutscenes, given a new interface, and the framing was adjusted to 16:9 (not cropped). Unfortunately, virtually none of the known bugs from the 2008 version were fixed. In fact, some new ones were added.
When the Director's Cut was announced, I had already offered to master it properly. Unfortunately, this did not happen. But now it will be done here.
REMASTERED DELUXE EDITION
The initial reason for me was to remaster the highly fluctuating sound quality. Unfortunately, I also discovered that the Linux version was broken and unplayable. But after four months of hard work in my spare time, it has become much more than that. I think the effort was definitely worth it, because now we have:
Around 17 hours of remastered audio material. The result: no more annoying volume and sound fluctuations, cleanly looped background music. The audio material consists of video sequences, music, sounds, and German and English text.
A working Linux version.
In addition, I have fixed a number of script and graphics errors, some of which were already present in 2008 and some of which were added in 2015. Details are included with the game in the form of an extensive, but spoiler-heavy list. See Extras/deluxe_edition_edits_de.txt
The video sequences are now also subtitled.
Displayed text and spoken text can now be selected independently of each other.
The subtitles can now also be turned off if desired.
No more aimless sneaking around: double-clicking now shortens many more scene transitions, including all automatic doors.
It contains fewer video sequences, but some scripted scenes that were not included in the director's cut. The remaining video sequences remain in the revised quality from 2015.
These and other settings can now be made in the new deLuxe menu.
I also thought of the Spanish fans and included their independent fan translation.
