A Small Classic Point-and-Click from Spain - Karellen Games - 03-05-2026

Hi!

I want to share a small project I’ve been working on over the past year. It’s called Upstairs, a short classic point-and-click adventure that will be released soon.

It was developed in Spain by just one person  (me) during evenings and spare hours outside of my regular job. I used Unity together with Adventure Creator.

I studied Fine Arts a long time ago and currently work as a technical artist at a mobile game studio, so I had the experience and knowledge to approach this project properly. On top of that, I decided to keep everything as minimal as possible, from the art to the music, so I wouldn’t lose my mind during development and end up abandoning the project.

As a small confession, whenever I ran into design doubts during development, I often found myself going back to Octavi Navarro’s games to see how he handled similar problems. So in many ways, this project is quite indebted to his work. Not intentionally imitative, but definitely influenced by studying how he solves design challenges.

The game itself is short (around 40–90 minutes on a first run), with a lot of dark humor and some satanic vibes.

I just wanted to put it out there for anyone who might be interested in this kind of small, handmade adventure. You can find it in Steam:

Thank you!

I instantly fell in love with your game when I saw the characters in the screenshot!

And it is so cool that you were able to depict the Girl with the Pearl Earring in such a recognizable way with so few pixels. I will definitely put this on my wishlist Smile

Wishlisted. Love me some giant pixels.

Thanks both of you!

It could be Girl with a Pearl Earring or it could be Britney Spears with AirPods, that’s the fun of low-resolution pixel art!

That looks pretty great!

Adventure Creator! Very great tool!

It looks (and sounds!) great!

One small nitpick: I’m always a bit put off when there’s a certain resolution for the pixel art but the text (or other objects) display in a higher resolution than the rest. It sort of takes me out of it.

Anyway, that’s only a small detail that tickles my brain and most people probably couldn't care less. Congrats on the game!

That seems neat, I will certainly pick it up. Congrats! Do you actually use the lint on the note? ?
