In theory I like the idea of a Broken Sword movie. However, in reality media-crossovers rarely work, at least for me. For example, I'm a huge fan of the X-men comics but all that colourful cartoon action craziness just doesn't translate to a live action movie with real actors. It just looks ridiculous. I can easily imagine Broken Sword becoming a sort of CGI-heavy version of Romancing the Stone unless they really have a new angle on the story.

Sure, but in a world where *super mario*, as in the stereotypical fat italian plumber who saves the princess screaming "help help" for every level in like 15 games in a row, spawns two box office hits? One could imagine that a well written story with strong characters would succeed?

Nah. Just kidding. That would assume a rational world.

Yes, and that there is the kicker! We have long since departed from rational...

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see an adaptation that captures the feel, storytelling and adventurous spirit of the games (well, most of them at least...) but I can't help but worry over 'Hollywood excess' converting it into soulless cash grab that simply sharts all over the legacy of the franchise.

Yeah but this is supposedly a new endeavor

Wasn't Monkey Island at one point supposed to become a movie?

As with everything, I'll wait and see as the unrelenting cynic I am. Hollywood loves to buy the rights to things and then put them in development hell and ultimately never do anything with it. It's not the first game that's supposed to have had a movie based on it that never happened and I've seen it happen to other media like books too. Sometimes studios just like to squat on things so that at least others can't make a successful adaptation either.

Soulless cash grab seems a bit harsh - I mean, we're talking about Broken Sword. The games aren't exactly deep.

“Very few franchises of this era have stayed relevant, premium, and loyal to the intelligence of their audience. ‘Broken Sword’ has done all three,” Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Michael Lawrence Goldberg said in a joint statement Tuesday.

They definitely know how to cater to the adventure gamer's ego. I wonder if the IP name recognition is enough to draw a decent crowd. Maybe it doesn't have to when it goes directly to streaming.

Seeing the success of their latest Kickstarter, raising nearly 1 million USD dollars to reforge Broken Sword 2 (which already has a remake), I don't understand why they don't do a Kickstarter to complete Parzival's Stone.

Because for Parzival's Stone they will need 5 mil pounds. So without investor it is impossible, they cannot get this amount via kickstarter...

I don’t know if I’m decent but it will draw me in.
