But for me, it's gotta be Elvira, thanks to her two really memorable... video games. I don't know if they still have the same effect if you encounter them for the first time in 2025, but I played them in my early teens and the creepy and gruesome horror visuals left a lasting impression. Good stuff!

I love Harvester my first playthrough on Twitch was this game. I tried to play Elvira the combat made it impossible for me to get very far.

- Carnival
- The Supper: New Blood
- Kathy Rain 2
- The Flayed Man
- Slender Threads
- Vlad Circus: Descend Into Madness

I loved The Flayed Man the rest of these games I already have on my wishlist

I have both of them in my library thank you for the suggestions everyone may play these

I love this game I did a full playthrough on Twitch

If you want a free short, spooky and cute, halloween themed game, try Blackout.

RE: Spooky Adventure Games - AdventureGameGeek - 09-29-2025

Might have played these already but some that come to mind are Hob's Barrow, Barrow Hill, Dark Fall, Scratches, Nightmare Frames and Carnival

RE: Spooky Adventure Games - Lady of the Worlds - 09-29-2025

If it can be freeware, I suggest:

-If On A Winter's Night Four Travellers (not many puzzles, but an excellent atmosphere)
-The Charnel House Trilogy (again, very few puzzles, but so atmospheric)
-Absent (this one has puzzles)
-Metaphobia (no ghosts, but something else, and very high quality)
-Urban Witch Story (made by Postmodern Adventures, the developer of An English Haunting and Nightmare Frames)

The Last Door is a favourite of mine, and is currently 75% off.

If you've ever wanted to play an Edgar Allan Poe story, this is probably as close as you'll get. It's not big monster/ jump scare terrifying but, instead, very atmospheric and genuinely unnerving.

Also, this and Darkside Detective got me back into 'modern' adventure games, when my PC was just about capable of running games on Newgrounds and Kongregate, As you can imagine, you don't need a supercomputer to run it!

Loved Hob's Barrow. I have both Barrow Hill games in my library. I briefly checked out the first Dark Fall game. Have yet to play Scratches. Nightmare Frames and Carnival are on my wishlist of future purchases

RE: Spooky Adventure Games - Geisterfaust - 09-30-2025

Seconding The Last Door - one of the best horror games I've ever played!

Also, not a perfect game by any means, but I always loved the creepy small town atmosphere in Shadow of the Comet (1993): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdL30eS9V_s

RE: Spooky Adventure Games - Adventure Vault - 09-30-2025

I'll throw my suggestion into the ring: Dreams in the Witch House. While it is a conventional point and click adventure game, there are aspects of time management sprinkled into the game, so it might not be for everyone. However, the lore and setting is excellent and it was very fun to play through.

Other than that, I agree with a lot of the titles recommended in the thread by other users. I enjoyed Kathy Rain 2 and Carnival which released recently.

RE: Spooky Adventure Games - namtabmai - 09-30-2025

People have already mentioned The Dark Fall series, but another more recent one from the same developer is Incubus. With the cameras etc made me think of the old TV program Ghostwatch.
