Those trees remind me of the aesthetic of The Riddle of Master Lu

I'm afraid it's not The Riddle of Master Lu, but the release dates of these games are close (which may explain a certain similarity of visual styles).

This game's developer once made an action game based on a very well-known 1982's manga/1988's anime.

The game flopped because it was impossible to pass.

I actually played this game - as far as it let me. It's somewhat interesting, but the developers tried to combine the point & click interface with real time action. They didn't make it work.
