Damn, this is hard. To be honest, both of them are absolutely brilliant in their own way, and I've had both of them as posters up on my wall on several occasions. But oof, the colors, the composition of MI2... just does something for me. It's gonna have to be MI2, but it's neck and neck. Love them both.

Congrats to LeChuck and Monkey Island 2 on being crowned the Lucas Arts cover art CHAMPION!!! (15-4).

Sam n Max should have used root beer.

Now for the 3rd place!:

Pains me to vote for either one for third third place ... MI

OMG, this one is hard. I really can’t choose. They are both perfect, and diametrically different.
I should vote DOTT just to have a contender in the «minimalist cartoon» category among the top three, because it really is in a league of its own in that regard. I would rate it significantly higher than the Sam & Max cover. My top three would probably be MI2, MI1 and DOTT.

But choosing between MI1 and DOTT… Impossible. I have to go with MI1, just because it oozes adventure and excitement like literally no other cover does, even though DOTT in all its simplicity has probably aged better. But to me… MI1 is *the* cover that says «classic adventure game» like no other cover does (and is really only beaten by MI2).

So I choose MI1 today, but I’m fine with either one in third place. These LucasArts game boxes are so beautiful, and hell, they mean a lot to me. And you bet that my fiancée makes a lot of fun of the fact that this 43 year old guy still keeps dozens of them in a waterproof case in the attic and refuses to get rid of them. (She is only 38, she wouldn’t understand.) My precioussssss….
