*** Minor Spoiler Alert! ***

I've got the colour chart. The main character complains about it being the wrong way around. So I can't open the temple.

Also I can't reach the window in a specific painting of the grey-coloured variety.

By the way, I sent a message to Hexenwerk earlier. Did she send you here? Wink
I did the art for poop together, jungle and inside of the temple.
Yes, she did post it in our group chat - and I took the bait like our red fish in the game Smile. Hopefully I don't end up in someone's inventory.. or worse.

1. The majority of the game has the standard 16:9 aspect ratio for most scenes. There are exceptions such as the square-shaped black & white painting with the traffic crossing. That image has black sidebars to maintain a 4:3 aspect ratio like in older games and TV shows. I love this! But, I need to know if this was an intentional design decision? Or was it a coincidence from having multiple artists working on the project at once?

2. Was the game written in German before being translated into English? Or was it originally written in English first?

Thank you in advance for answering these!  Smile
1. Screens are usually planned before they are drawn for the games. I asked Esmeralda, the artist - not painter - of this screen about it. She said it was to save time, since we did not need more from the screen than what fits this smaller format. This is especially important during a game jam, but I'm sure even game dev studios will look very carefully at how efficiently their worker's time is spent. So... yes it was planned, just for different reasons.

2. We develop German first then translate it to English. I think we do some localization for phrases that don't work in English but it's rare. We also did a collaborative game with Simon from The Icehouse (Mon Village est Magique: A Druidic Adventure) where we started with English since that was the language everyone could speak.

Unfortunately, it was indeed a trap. Now you must lead the next community playthrough of one of your game :>

Things are going very well now, thank you to both BobVP and Joe for helping so far.

Keeping things intentionally ambiguous and spoiler-free, I think I might need the chameleon. Hints on obtaining it?

Ah, since I was invited to join, I decided to do so. Smile
I don't want to interrupt the playthrough, just saying hi (or hex hex!) for now!

Reading your impressions so far was interesting indeed. Looking back at the game now after the last few years with AI turning up and changing the internet as well as 2D art (as an example), our game feels different to me now.

As one of the devs who painted (2) backgrounds for this game, I could be "disappointed" that some of you find most of them rather boring or uninteresting. But actually I have to grin, since it was intended that way. As of today, what we did with these paintings - obviously stealing an existing style or theme, but not including "depth" or creative meaning/understanding in the single paintings, making them kitschy - feels a bit like what people using AI (LLM) for generating "paintings" do these days.

I did the water scene as well as the punky but bland The Last Supper. And I was so mean to combine those annoying music tracks (the choir and guitar) for the latter scene. I like to put weird stuff into games that don't always feel good or beautiful. The goal was to make it feel wrong somehow. This game allowed us devs the freedom to work in the style we would enjoy while painting it. Overall, it was my most favorite project of our collaborations so far. Smile

Looking forward to the continued playthrough here!

Hi Hexenwerk, I'm glad you've decided to join us Big Grin
I was worried that this playthrough would be a dud, but now that many people have joined and now the dev are here, it has turned out awesome.

And now it's time for the new screen.

[SPOILER WARNING]

Well, look at that. Amidst all those kidnappings and the evil painter/artist being a douche, there's a  sincere, innocent drawing made by a little girl.
What a twist.

I'm feeling quite stymied now, but also that I'm so close to figuring things out!

I've got 3 pieces of clues on paper. I've got yellow paint but I feel like I need it to be green. My first thought would be by mixing it with the blue, but there doesn't seem to be a way to access that.

Hello Hexenwerk! It's great to have you here! When you said "Hex Hex" is that a reference to Bibi Blocksberg? I love that German cartoon series!

Your underwater scene that you drew is very peaceful and serene, it's easily my favourite background!

I also hate A.I images taking over the internet.

Quick question, why does the little girl keep changing her name twice in the game? First it was Astrid and then it was Else? Please explain this.
