The new game from Lee Petty and Double Fine releases today. Anyone planning to play Keeper?
Maybe my Adventure Game Hotspot review will help you decide.
Short version is: I loved every minute of it, and it's the most fun I've had with a game for a long time. And holy hell, is it gorgeous. But know what type of game it is, because it's definitely not your traditional point-and-click.
Would love to hear what other people think of it!

You CAN play with keyboard/mouse, but it's pretty clunky. Still, it's a very forgiving game control-wise until near the end.

I think Keeper is good as a Journey-like game. We've also had Herdling and Sword of the Sea this year; I would say The Midnight Walk and Little Nightmares 3 are similar too because if we take out all the god-awful stealth, what remains does resemble a Journey-like walking simulator.
I don't mind games being very easy, but if it's a linear game where half the time all that's required is to move through a location to reach the next location, that doesn't feel engaging to me.
Putting aside open-world games, I prefer something like Song of Nunu, The Gunk or Echoes of the End -- so with more elaborate puzzles and narrative, more varied gameplay and lots of companion interactions. I think companion interactions which happen during gameplay (not in cutscenes), from banter to teamwork, are one of the most enjoyable things in action-adventures, and there's very little of that in Journey-like games.
FInished Keeper (about 6 hours)
For the most part I loved it, the world the weirdness, the music and the puzzles were all fantastic.
The game is fairly straightforward, fixed camera limits exploration, but there is a good range of locations to keep you engaged.
No idea what the game was about for the most part. There is no traditional narrative so you have to intuite from whats on screen what is going on. I wanted to know more about the world and the characters.
Overall enjoyable, it gets seriously trippy towards the end.

An adventure game is nothing more than a good story set with engaging puzzles that fit seamlessly in with the story and the characters, and looks and sounds beautiful.
I am interested in this one, but haven't decided yet - I think there are other games I want to play first.
I don't like playing with a controller at all, so knowing about clumsy keyboard controls not really makes me looking forward to playing this one.
What I really like about this is the idea of the player character.
The graphics are not really my cup of tea (just the style), since everything looks kinda tinted to me. Not saying they are bad, it's just my taste. And I would prefer this style any time over an extremely realistic game like shooters do it (which i don't play). I like it when devs are still creative and dare to create something that looks different.
