I recognize the second picture but for the life of me can't remember the game's name. I think it's an old freeware game.

Congratulations Joe, it is indeed the freeware classic; Out of Order.

Back in 2003, it even scooped up two different accolades. 'Best Game' and 'Best Graphics' in the Adventure Gamers Underground Awards. It's disappointing that Tim Furnish's magnum opus has now almost completely evaporated from the majority of people's memories.

Near Mage ?

An adventure game is nothing more than a good story set with engaging puzzles that fit seamlessly in with the story and the characters, and looks and sounds beautiful.
