This is a really close race!
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the wonderful BORDERS of these classic LucasArts boxes? All the way from Maniac Mansion to Sam & Max, the boxes really looked like they belonged together in a series, because of the borders and the way they continued around the sides of the boxes. They looked fantastic on a shelf together.
Favourite borders:
DOTT (weird purple shapes on a green background!)
Sam & Max (it’s a roadmap!)
Monkey Island 2 (like an ancient piece of paper that smells good!)

Monkey!
Sam & Max. It just seems to represent the game better.
Monkey Island always struck me as a bit too... I guess adventure book cover targeted towards kids? I don't think it captures the games humor. I never would've guessed it had so much comedy based on the cover.

I'll vote for Sam & Max.
MI has a much better palette, Sam & Max the better image cohesivehess and sense of game-appropriate whimsy. But what tips the scales is that Guybrush looks he's barely hit puberty.
