For anyone who'd like to give text adventures a try, but finds their open-ended parsers and esoteric puzzles too daunting, or just doesn't know where to start:

Acht, by Hexenwerk:

I really enjoyed this game, which is mostly about exploration. The room descriptions are great; they add a lot of character and you get a real sense of time and place. I never thought a game about spiders could be this cute.

The Dragon of Silverton Mine, by Vukašin Davić:

Another twine creation - this is one's a bit closer to a traditional text adventure in a fantasy setting. The writing is solid, it manages to be fun and descriptive while remaining fairly economical: an easy read that manages to transport you to another world. Interesting approach to puzzles, without a parser.

Lost Pig, by Admiral Jota:

A classic? This one was recommended to me years ago and it's a great way to get into the mechanics of these kind of games. I must say I'm not too fond of the "dumb grammar" style of writing (I'll save you the explanation), but the scope is very manageable, the main character is sympathetic and the puzzles are great.
