Shoutout to Zanthia! Greatly admired her when I was young. Bold, witty, stylish, lived in a swamp. Would've been cool to get another game with her as the protagonist.

I think I like the third game better than most people did. The attitude dial was clever (maybe a little underused). The soundtrack was full of bangers and incorporated styles that you wouldn't hear in other adventure games for a while. And the subversion of Malcolm as a scapegoat was great, especially since they didn't make him "good, actually" - just.. slightly damaged and on the fringe of respectable society. The institutions, those in power and the general population were not as good and deserving as they pretended to be. That's a good setup for both comedy and some serious reflections on power, conformity and why we judge certain people while failing to be as critical of others, often based on our own interests, biases and not making things too difficult for ourselves.

That's what i thought playing the game,  also seeing the whole Kyrandia world through a different perspective kicked its lore, structure and believability even more. In the end the attitude meter is more of a personality meter than an ethical compass which Malcolm uses to navigate the intricate bureaucracy and social fabric of this world. Good or bad are just subjective socially and philosophically and the player is left to contemplate on this. Also I must say the designers tried something different in all games and not only superficially, from a classic kingsquestian first book to the Zanthias cute overload magic potion quest to the final book with the interconnected areas and multi paths to approaching and solving problems. And i really loved the daedalian design of K3, also it has the advantage of not being stuck finding the one solution and the game is chock full of little details and shortcuts to make your adventure easier, it encourages experimentation with Malcolm giving all sort of answers when you try things

You guys have given me some good food for thought about Book 3, i will take a new look at it when i get there, still in the Castle in Book 1 so will be a while but thanks for the thoughtful thoughts. Weswood was a remarkable studio and tried a lot of new and interesting things. I guess after then Cryso (or is it Cyro?) anyway, the Atlantis etc studio was my next discover of interest when i first ventured into Adventure gaming many years ago. Glad the Westwood classics have survived to enjoy to this day, for the discerning AG player. thanks again for the thoughts.

Just started the Hand of Fate, Kyrandia Book 2. Off for fun with the world of Kyrandia. Zanthia is one of my favorite game characters. Heart

I picked up Blue Prince a while ago due to the accolades it got last year. I've put around 10-15 hours into the game. It's definitely enjoyable and I like that it doesn't feel like anything else. I do worry I don't have the patience and stamina to get to the end, and that recognition itself weakens my interest in persisting with the game. I've read in reviews that getting to the "end" isn't actually the end and only leads to further extensions of the story, and that it also gets harder the further you get because planning depends to some extent on being lucky with the plans you get. There are a lot of story threads and rabbit holes and I'm already having trouble following all of them, or having the will to do so. So I may just be resigned to leaving this one unfinished and watching the end (if there is one) on a youtube video - something I've been doing increasingly of late.

I probably should have been on the alert when the game told me to keep a journal to write down clues - and I've kept journals in the past for games like RHEM and The Witness!

That's right: If your goal is reaching Room 46, getting to the "end" will be disappointing because it certainly isn't the end. You will probably have completed only 15% of the game. But you will get a nice cut scene and it's the only time you will see the credits. Why would you want to play a game you don't really like all that much and don't have the patience for? Go for the cut scene on youtube!

Closer to 5%, I think...

Has anyone actually completely finished "Blue Prince"? Solved every puzzle? I thought I read that even the most extensive walkthrough only runs up to a certain point and then they got lost as well...

Like I mentioned elsewhere, I've put in 110 hours, I'm on day 65, and it has just become too difficult, even with a walkthrough. I know what I have to do to make some further progress, but there are just too many steps to get there which run over three days at least, and indeed, there's a lot of luck involved...

Anyways... I'm on to the final part of "A Vampyre Story" right now, but I'm also playing "Family" by Owlskip Games. They just released "The Ratline" and apparently they have been making these types of deduction games for years. Bought their Steam bundle but there are also some games on itch.io and "Family" is the first of them. I plays like "Roottrees", but several years before anyone ever heard of "Roottrees".

I started Blue Prince last week. I haven't played more than 1 day at any time as I find the whole process incredibly exhausting, and I'm not sure why. I took 20 pages of notes playing Lorelei and found that invigorating. Maybe it's the RNG aspect, or maybe I just don't find the visuals/backstory compelling yet.
