These lists have become less fun for me as the AGH staff's definition of Adventure Game has expanded to include games in which characters go on adventures and games that contain elements of point 'n click adventures.
Of the games I played that are on the list, I definitely would not include
- Kathy Rain (why not the vastly superior KR 2 if anything)
- Still Life (excellent game, not a top game)
- Loco Motive (this is personal. I know most people loved this game. To me, it was a top quality game that was also mostly very boring after the first couple of hours)
- The Drifter (starts great, doesn't quite stick the landing. Repetitive trial and error puzzle design. Gameplay loop in the second half of the game devolves into 'go here, talk to this person. Now go there, talk to that person. Now go somewhere else, talk to another person. Okay, now go talk to that first person again.' With a bit of inventory and trial and error stuff mixed in.
- Unavowed (I remember enjoying it while I played it, but none of it stuck with me. A good but not great game.)
- Disco Elysium (Actually might be my number 1 game of the past 25 years, but it wouldn't go on my list of top adventure games, despite having much in common with many adventure games. It's an RPG.)
I haven't played Blue Prince, but as per the introduction, isn't that 'too soon to tell?'
When I have time I'll be back with a personal list of top 25 of the last 25.

Actually, the intro explains why it's NOT too soon to tell. So long as enough people had played it to have a definite opinion on a game, it really didn't matter whether it's had any long-lasting impact or not, just how enjoyable it was.
(It was only too soon for a few really great games that not enough of us had played yet.)

You know me, Jack. I only read the headlines and maybe the first couple of sentences if I'm feeling ambitious.
That's a nice list, maybe a top 50 would be more versatile but it would be enormous work I understand. Thank you for putting it together. Maybe in the end of the next year (2026) that will be the anniversary of 50 years from the first adventure a top 100 list could be assembled (just a thought). I'll try and put a top 25 of my own if i find time
That's a lot of quality games removed from the list Baron Blubba. I'm looking forward to seeing what your replacements are. I'm sure you have some of the same ones I have.

I think it's a great list. And amazingly, for me, I have actually played most of the games on it (13 to be precise)!
One thing it tells me is that I wasn't alone in thinking that the mid 2010s was a golden time for story-rich adventures: Life is Strange; Firewatch; Edith Finch.
My only addition would have been The Witness.
