Welcome everyone! This is a head-to-head tournament to crown the greatest Sierra box art of all time.
I’ve set up a 32-cover knockout bracket (see below). Each match-up will run for 3 days of open voting.
The rules are simple:
A note on the selection
Putting this bracket together was not easy. Many Sierra covers are iconic, and narrowing them down to 32 meant some had to be left out. (Police Quest 4 was actually the easiest to cut, lol). But leaving out things like Castle of Dr. Brain or Leisure Suit Larry 6 was tough, I tried my best to balance the most worthy and striking artworks.
So, without further ado… here’s the full tournament draw:

- Vote based only on the box art, not the game itself.
- Pick your favorite in each match-up.

Voting for Kings Quest VI
Hell yeah! I'm in a dungeon full of skulls, and a minotaur is about to attack me. Where's my sword? Never mind, I'll defeat him with the power of my superior intellect.
There's also a chick in the background who looks like she needs some help. Is she Roberta Williams? Whatever, I'm here to rescue you, my lady!
On the other hand:
PQ2 really wants you to know the title. Like, holy crap, it took 3/5 of the cover.
And what about the gun? It's tiny, give this man a magnum.
Anyway, what's going on here? Is he holding her hostage? She doesn't look too scared. It's more like she's confused about the tiny divers swimming before her eyes.

Is that Ken and Roberta on the cover of PQ2? Lol, i am going with Police Quest 2 only for that
Police Quest 2. Mostly because it uses the full box well, I don't like the way KQ6 cuts so much off like looking through a window.
King's Quest VI
The PQ2 art just looks super cheap, like the airbrushed art you see on a carnival rides. It has two art pieces seemingly photoshopped together, and the total space for the art being roughly 1/3 of the box size. On the plus side, it does its job of communicating what the game's about.
Meanwhile the KQ6 art is a beautifully painted piece, displaying a great understanding of composition, colour contrast, and use of light and shadow. We intrinsically understand the human in the shot to be the main character you'll be playing as, and that there will be adventure to be had and perils to overcome. It's very evocative!

The tagline is also one of the best puns: "Heir today, gone tomorrow", too bad the high res pic I found was in german...
