Well, this was a surprise: More Thimbleweed Park on the way!

Quoted from our news announcement on the main site:

Quote:To paraphrase Ransome the Clown: Holy beep, there's a beeping sequel to Thimbleweed Park coming!

That's right, Thimbleweed Park 2 is now officially a thing, though production has only "just started." The new game, described as "not really a sequel, not really a prequel" to the acclaimed 2017 Ron Gilbert/Gary Winnick comedic mystery, promises to start off with a bang – again – as another dead body is found, this time at the Edmund Mansion. (Looks like that "Population: 80" sign is going to need another update.) Fortunately, Agents Ray and Reyes are "back to investigate... or are they?" The culprit is someone in the mansion, and over the course of one "long, strange night," it'll be up to you to determine which of the suspects is the killer if you can. Of course, you should expect the unexpected in Thimbleweed Park, and prepare yourself to end up with "more questions than answers," because in this town, "a dead body is the least of your problems."

Along with the two dubious investigators, this "spoof of a classic whodunit" will feature other familiar faces, including Delores, Franklin, and the foul-mouthed Ransome, who will no doubt be much more mild-mannered this time. (Okay, probably not.) The team behind the scenes will be largely the same as well, with Gilbert joined by "Mark Ferrari, Gary Winnick, David Fox, Octavi Navarro, Robert Megone, and others from the original team" to deliver another stylish point-and-click pixel art adventure. No further story details have yet been revealed just yet, but one thing's for sure: the game will be "more Thimbleweed Park than ever ... and just as weird."

We're still a long way off from release, naturally, but the project is being self-published "with the help of a private investor" and is due to arrive on Steam sometime in early 2028. In the meantime, Gilbert announced on his Grumpy Gamer website that he will be "starting up a Thimbleweed Park 2 dev blog ... and posting regularly to keep everyone up to date."

Sounds like a slightly scaled-back production, but more Thimbleweed Park is always welcome!

We are in for another meta ending, aren't we?

(Apologies, just couldn't help myself.)

Well, I enjoyed Thimbleweed Park, meta-ending and what not. I hope Ron restrains himself this time but he does love those meta-endings.

I wonder if they'll reuse a lot of graphics or if they'll go in the Day of the Tentacle style of follow-up.

I liked both MI2 and TP endings, I didnt mind. Last Monkey Island felt unfinished and empty though (except the ship chapter). No rush, 2028 is cool, its better to develop in their leisure and peace of mind. I really liked TP world and new concept seems compelling. Also no nostalgia (like MI series) to keep the project caged

I was lukewarm on the original, but am still curious as to what a sequel could do. I'll be keeping an eye on it.

YESS-a-RENO!!! Thimbleweed Park is one of the best point and click adventures ever imho. Vastly underrated mostly because some people can't handle the ending...I wonder what ransom the clown has to say about those people Smile

I have 0 thoughts about the game but I'm fully on board with this enthusiasm.
