That adds an intriguing element of mystery to the front cover to entice you to purchase the game. The shiny glow of the underwater MacGuffin is just a marketing ploy. Side note: I felt like supporting the underdog this time around.
Ecoquest.
I'm voting for Space Quest III.
It just barely convinced me. The parody of McDonalds is a nice addition of comedy. But overall it just screams "Star Wars" knockoff based on the cover. Competently delivered but ultimately predictable.
I like the wedding 'rocket ship' blasting off in the Leisure Suit Larry cover. It's biggest strength and weakness simultaneously is having a 'clip art' look. The more I stare at the pink background, the more I end up disliking it. Probably because it's a bit skin-like.

Space Quest III, and quite an easy choice. That is an all time classic cover, beautifully put together. Fantastic use of the text elements and really nice composition. It also manages to convey the tone of the game really well, and the quality of the drawing is very high.

100% in agreement about the quality of the Space Quest III cover, but where's the originality? That's why I was on the fence, because at least the Leisure Suit Larry cover has a couple of clever components added.
Space Quest III
Life: Adventures guaranteed. Instructions not included.
That's an easy one. I have played neither, but I go for Space Quest III.
I never liked Larry as a character/the whole setting of the series.
I don't like SciFi that much either, but those space ship designs look funny and have a nice retro vibe, just like the typography.
