I write in German, hence the German puns and onomatopoeia in the names. (Although these were the real names.)
Those who read it found at least the first part funny. But these are all readers who are familiar with wild boars, at least from hearsay, or have encountered them before. At least the AI has already figured out who the murderer is, but fortunately the readers haven't.
It will be a long time before the story is finished. I am so dissatisfied with the second part that I have to start the rough draft all over again.

And then I have to revise it. I can't do “show don't tell” at all, and the course on it isn't until May. I doubt I'll have much time in the summer. If my joints are back to normal by then, I'll be spending my days at the lake.

Do you also write with pen & paper or only directly type your story and character ideation on a keyboard?

Maybe you could combine time at the lake with writing? Smile

I write directly on the computer. I didn't have to create the characters because they really existed. Developing the story was also easy because Nadu really did lose a child. How, I don't know.

It's also a work of mourning, as many were murdered at the turn of the year 22/23, including Unhold and Tante Erna. And the rest in the summer of 24, because people were afraid of African swine fever, which was 60 km away.

Both must have been bloodbaths, with over 40 pigs murdered in each case. The corpses piled up and they continued to kill.

If you want to know how concentration camps were possible, you only have to look behind the scenes at a zoo or wildlife park. In the past, it was “only Jews/LGBTQ+ people”; today, it is only animals. In both cases, devils in human form are at work.

And since the story is meant to commemorate my bristly friends, it has to be perfect. It has to show my friends as they were, with all their strengths and weaknesses. And it has to show what great characters wild boars are.

I will be on Team Wild Boars for the rest of my life.

I really enjoy reading about this project. I saw the videos of the boars in an older post, which makes it even better. I hope you'll find a way to develop the skills you feel you need to make this a succes! And that your joints improve.

I am uncomfortable with the comparison. I think I get where you're coming from and I feel a little awkward telling you this, because I know there's no malicious intent. But it's how I feel, you know? I'm also not on the opposite side - I think I'd like to be on Team Wild Boar as well.

I really hope you don't feel like I'm telling you off. Stuff like this can be super-awkward but it's also not that big of a deal if we can just be chill and honest.

Regarding the course (I'm curious what you're studying!) - maybe you could find inspiration and insights elsewhere, before the course? I recommend Self-Editing for Fiction Writers by Renni Browne and Dave King. Unlike many books on writing, this is really about practical techniques and the way things work, rather than being inspirational/motivational.
