It was definitely existential - and somehow I managed to solve the screen a couple of seconds ago.
I can't really figure out why this was the solution, but I'll roll with it.

For me, this scene represents the whole game, and not because of the giant goblin head, but because all the pieces of the puzzle in this scene are quintessentially Gobliiins-style, even the double pixel hunting, which by now has become easily noticeable.
The game manual tells us that Meliagante is a very sad giant. Make him laugh and he will be more inclined to help you find what you are looking for.
