Ah, I didn't realize that There Is No Game was released in 2020. Well, time to go edit my list.

I have There is no game in my backlog for years I have to play it already. These games that break the forth wall like one shot or pony island are so inventive

Oh i will write one of these up soon. The funny thing is 2020 was a year with a lot of extra time for gaming, and theres a number of games i would have included played then but were actually released in 2019 (disco elysium, ai somnium files)

1- Excavation of Hobs Barrow
2- Darkside detective
3- Return to Monkey Island

These are the only 3 I can mention, as the others I have tried have been not to my liking to the point I can't get past 20-30 min of them.

I'm curious which you have tried that you couldn't get into. I enjoyed all the games on your list, and have played several similar games that I also enjoyed. The Drifter, Foolish Mortals, Lucy Dreaming, The Phantom Fellows...basically at least half the games on my top 10 and honorable mentions lists. And I can be a pretty persnickety adventure game rater.

On top of my head these 2:

Unavowed: To summarize, I believe it had an amazing story with boring/tedious gameplay and dialogues, which led me to lose interest in the gameplay for the sake of advancing the story.

The Drifter: Similar. but extreme in this regard. I felt it was pretty much a movie with the gameplay getting in the way of it.

.....In contrast with modern point and clicks, Thimbleweed Park and Hobs Barrow respect the player’s intelligence.

Most modern adventures are afraid you’ll get stuck. These two aren’t hand-holding with  constant hint popups. Progress comes from understanding, not from following rails.... You’re expected to observe, remember details, make logical (sometimes lateral) connections, etc

That immediately puts them closer to Sierra/LucasArts golden age thinking than to modern narrative games.

Allright i believe my list looks like this:

1.Citizen sleeper
2.Old skies
3.Opus echo of starsong
4.Immortality
5. Hobbs barrow
6. Blue prince
7. Paradise killer
8. Lost in play
9. Case of the golden idol
10. Harmony fall of reverie

I am presently playing through the drifter and i suspect that will find its way onto the list. Virtuaverse, norco, paranormasight all easy honorable mentions. Ill also add citizen sleeper 2 i could easily put in the top 5 as well. But i thought the game having one slot was enough.
There is a title that comes to mind for "dishonor" but im not going to name it. I think devs of adventure games have a lot of heart and it takes a part of their life to get these things to cross the finish line. And even in cases where they botched it, they gave their all to further a genre they were surely told wasnt worth making. And they completed anyway. So no dis-honor for them.
